The Family Story of Camping Au Soleil d’Oc in Monceaux-sur-Dordogne
Welcome Home
The Dordogne Valley in Corrèze is characterised by a line of limestone cliffs, green waters and stone villages that have overlooked the river since the 11th century. The Au Soleil d’Oc campsite was established there in Monceaux-sur-Dordogne, 4 km from Argentat, in the 1950s. Several generations of families keep coming back here: some of today’s campers have black-and-white photos of their parents standing in front of the very same oak trees.Lire la suite
What truly sets this 4-star campsite apart from its neighbors in the valley — Le Gibanel or Le Vaurette in Argentat — is the heated indoor pool.

What Camping Au Soleil d’Oc is all about
Nature & comfort
Le Soleil d’Oc is a human-sized 4-star campsite: 3 hectares, 99 pitches, and 64 rentals. It’s not a water park with DJ entertainment every night. It’s a family campsite where the same families have been returning for ten, twenty, thirty years — because the Dordogne Valley in Corrèze is not easily tiresome, and because the establishment has managed to remain a reasonable size. Large enough to offer serious amenities, small enough for your children to find their way around alone after the first day.Read more
The 2026 season runs from April 30 to November 21 — 207 days, one of the longest opening periods in the valley. This extended period is significant: it covers the long weekends in May (when families can get stuck due to Corrèze weather), the entire high season, and the All Saints’ Day holidays in October-November. Outside of July-August, the campsite is significantly less crowded — this is often the preferred time for regulars.

The heated indoor pool: the feature that truly makes a difference
Feet in the water
In mid-May, it can be 22°C at 2 PM and 13°C at 7 PM in Corrèze. Or it can rain all day. This is the reality of spring and autumn in this region. The heated indoor pool at Soleil d’Oc directly addresses this constraint: no matter what the sky does, the children can swim.

This indoor pool is available from April 30 to November 21 — the entire season, without exception. In May and September, it is often more frequented than the outdoor pool. Families who book during the long weekends in May know this: it’s precisely why they choose here rather than a campsite without indoor facilities.
The outdoor pool, on the other hand, opens as soon as the season allows — generally in May — and remains available until September. Solarium around the pool, a different kind of conviviality, but dependent on the weather.
Pitches and mobile homes: what the campsite offers
Find your accommodation
Le Soleil d’Oc offers two main categories of accommodation. The bare pitches, between 100 and 150 m², are shaded by oak trees — experienced campers know that shade in July at 2 PM is not a minor detail. 10A electrical hook-up included; motorhome owners have full services. The majority of pitches are a few dozen meters from the river. In low season, it is often possible to choose your pitch upon arrival.
The Bengali mobile homes — with 2 or 3 bedrooms — are equipped with a full kitchen (refrigerator, hob, microwave, utensils), a bathroom with shower, and a covered terrace with garden furniture. For a family of 4 to 8 people, this is the option that allows you to cook on-site and save on restaurant meals. The covered terrace is useful: in Corrèze, thunderstorms pass quickly but they do happen.

The Dordogne 50 meters from your pitch
At nature’s whim
In the morning, before 9 AM, when the river is still in the shadow of the cliffs, the Dordogne in front of the campsite is a deep green. Translucent to a depth of 1 to 2 meters. The sound of water on the pebbles is the background noise of the campsite — you can hear it from the riverside pitches.

The campsite has direct access to a private beach on the Dordogne. In July-August, when the river has warmed up (18-20°C), this beach becomes the natural gathering point in the afternoon. Children play in the shallow water at the edge; adults settle on the pebbles with a view of the gorges.
Some important details:
- In spring (May-June), the Dordogne can be cold and the current stronger — swimming is not recommended for young children and requires caution
- In July-August, the waters are calm, suitable for family swimming
- The Dordogne is classified as a UNESCO biosphere reserve — water quality is monitored and excellent
- The campsite rents or organizes canoe-kayak activities — inquire at reception

What to do in the surroundings: the practical guide
Our region awaits you
Corrèze is a region of passage, but not mass tourism. No TGV, no highway crossing the Dordogne Valley. This is what preserves the sites — and what forces you to take your time
Argentat-sur-Dordogne — 4 km, 5 minutes
Visits for all tastes
The nearest town. Argentat-sur-Dordogne was for centuries the great trading port of the upper Dordogne — gabarres loaded with wood, cheese, and nuts sailed down the river to Bordeaux. The old port is now a pleasant promenade with its turreted houses. Market on Thursday mornings. All amenities: bakeries, supermarkets, pharmacy, doctor.
Canoeing on the Dordogne — from Argentat or Beaulieu
This is the valley’s flagship activity. Several watersports centers rent canoes and kayaks in Argentat (4 km) and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne (12 km). Descending trips vary from 5 km (2h, easy, children from 5 years old) to 30 km for the day. The Dordogne between Argentat and Beaulieu is particularly beautiful — narrow between the cliffs, not very crowded, with Class I-II rapids. Average price: expect €18-25 per person per day depending on the base and package.Read more

Murel Waterfalls — 15 km, 20 minutes
In Albussac, in the Xaintrie, the Murel waterfalls cascade into a limestone canyon. The site is accessible by car, then by a 30-40 minute trail (one way). The full hike around the waterfalls takes 2 to 3 hours. Less known than Gimel-les-Cascades (further east), Murel is less crowded in July-August. Free access.

Program ideas based on length of stay
The silence of nature
The Dordogne Valley in Corrèze is not an amusement park with a marked circuit. The rhythm you naturally adopt here is to start mornings early (before the heat and tourists), not to overload afternoons, and to let yourself be absorbed by evenings at the campsite or on a terrace in Argentat. The following are suggestions, not obligations.
Short weekend (2-3 nights)
With 2 or 3 nights, you need to choose 2 main activities and resist the temptation to see everything. Canoeing in the morning (departure 9:30 AM from Argentat, return 12:30 PM or 2 PM depending on the package) and the Murel waterfalls the next morning make for a solid program, without getting exhausted. The afternoon of the first day: arrival, settling in, pool or beach depending on the weather. In the evening: Argentat is 5 minutes away — the old port with its turreted houses is enough for a good evening.Read more
Day 1: Arrive before 3 PM, settle in, swim in the indoor pool or Dordogne beach. Evening at Argentat port (restaurants on the water).
Day 2: Canoe trip 9:30 AM from Argentat (return around 1 PM, 8 km). Free afternoon at the campsite or Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne (12 km, Saint-Pierre Abbey 12th century).
Day 3: Murel Waterfalls in the morning (departure 9 AM, Albussac parking, 30 min walk). Return via Collonges-la-Rouge if you pass through N20.
Full week (5-7 nights)
A week gives you time to unwind for the first two days — and that’s when the valley truly starts to work its magic. Weekday mornings in September have a special serenity: the Dordogne in the fog, the oak trees still green, Argentat market on Thursday. Here’s a possible breakdown without feeling like you’re on a constant guided tour.
Monday-Tuesday: Rest, pool, river swimming. Argentat on Tuesday evening for the night market (summer). Wednesday: Full-day canoe trip (20-25 km package with shuttle return). Thursday: Collonges-la-Rouge in the morning (arrive before 10 AM for peace and quiet), Turenne in the afternoon (panorama from the castle, €4 adult). Friday: Sarlat — leave at 8 AM, park at Cordeliers parking, morning market. Saturday: Padirac Chasm (50 km — book online the day before, €19 adult) or Lascaux caves (45 km, Lascaux IV). Sunday: Murel Waterfalls or local hike depending on energy.
