What fish can you catch in the Dordogne?
This river has the distinction of being classified as a 2nd category river thanks to its fish population consisting of salmonids (trout, salmon, common grayling, or chub).
Fishing in this type of waterway is open from mid-March to mid-November. The different sections allow for several types of no-kill fishing: fly fishing, worm fishing, live bait, or spoon fishing.
Below the campsite, coarse fishing is also possible (pike, zander, eel, etc.). Carp, roach, and perch fishing is also practiced, although this is not what anglers primarily wish to catch in the Dordogne. The lake and pond are more suitable for this type of fishing.

Prepare yourself with these formidable fishing techniques
make your choice
Optimize your chances of success now with these foolproof fishing techniques:
- Lure fishing, which is a technique mainly used to catch predators such as trout, catfish, or pike. It involves using an artificial lure to attract and catch fish. You simply cast your line and animate the lure with rotational, linear, or zigzag movements. This will lure your prey and capture it.
- Coarse fishing, the most popular, is suitable for catching roach. Simply attach fresh bait to the hook, cast your line, and wait. This is a simple and effective technique, which nevertheless requires patience to catch fish.
However, you should know that the choice of bait plays an important role in catching fish. Thus, earthworms, sweet corn, or fly larvae are the most commonly used baits for catching trout and roach during your Dordogne fishing campsite stay.
